We’re Meteor Labs, an open source intelligence red team working to protect vulnerable people most at risk.

Our mission is simple: to show high-risk individuals and mission-driven organizations what a determined attacker could find about them online—before the attacker does. Using OSINT (open source intelligence), we map public exposure across the surface, deep, and dark webs to identify the kinds of vulnerabilities that are often overlooked until it’s too late.

We specialize in digital threat modeling and exposure analysis for people who can’t afford to be visible in the wrong ways: healthcare workers, journalists activists, public interest attorneys, and survivors of domestic abuse or human-trafficking. We also work with clinics, nonprofits, and advocacy groups whose mission-driven, public-facing work makes them a target.

Our work is grounded in empathy, discretion, and a deep understanding of how real-world harm flows from digital exposure. We don’t just hand over a list of problems—we provide clear, practical, prioritized strategies that help clients take back control of their public, digital presence.

Not all OSINT is used ethically. We’re part of a growing movement committed to using open source intelligence for protection, not exploitation. This is #OSINTForGood—and it’s at the heart of everything we do.

JUSTIN McLACHLAN is a former investigative journalist who’s work has appeared in Wired, Popular Science, San Diego Citybeat, Voice of San Diego and Mother Jones. Justin founded Meteor Labs in 2024 to help the growing number of friends and family whose publicly available personal information — much of it taken without their permission or even knowledge — was used against them. With years of experience uncovering public records, navigating hostile environments, and holding power to account, he now helps vulnerable individuals and organizations stay one step ahead of those who might use public information to harm them. He has a master’s in journalism from WVU and Security+ certification from CompTIA.
